No 1 Driving School in the UK
Established in 2005, driveJohnson’s growth has been steady and consistent over the years. You can find out more about our journey and development on our About Us page.
However, there comes a time when you have to recognise that you’ve become a national driving school. It was never the plan to grow to this scale, but when we reached 850 instructors in our 20th anniversary year, we decided to enter the 2026 Intelligent Instructor Awards for National Driving School of the Year.
Although we believed we were the best in the UK, on 21st March 2026 this was officially confirmed when driveJohnson’s was announced as the winner of National Driving School of the Year (on our first attempt).
The award is based on a combination of 50% public votes and 50% from a 12-person judging panel, many of whom are recognised as impartial experts within the driving instructor industry. Intelligent Instructor is the most reputable organisation offering these types of awards annually in our industry.
National But Personal
Although we have been crowned National Driving School of the Year, we don’t want anyone - from our instructors to our learners - to feel that driveJohnson’s has lost its personal touch. Maintaining that personal approach is one of the key reasons we’ve reached this level of recognition, and it’s something we will never lose.
Thank You To All Of Our Supporters
driveJohnson’s would not be where it is today without the support of its instructors, office staff, and past and present learners.
Happy Instructors = Happy Learners
We received some lovely messages from our learners, instructors and friends in and outside of the industry.
Here is what some of them had to say…
The Only National Driving School Led By A Grade A (51/51) Instructor
driveJohnson’s is a bit different and that’s something we’re proud of.
We’re not run by investors chasing profits or people with no real connection to the industry.
Instead, the business is led by someone who’s been there and done it. Anthony Johnson is a Grade A (51/51) instructor trainer - the highest score you can achieve on the standards check. More importantly, he understands what it’s really like from the ground up.
So, what does that mean for you? Whether you’re a learner, an instructor, or looking to become a driving instructor, you can feel confident knowing you’re dealing with someone who truly understands your journey. Anthony is still hands-on and easy to reach every day. If he’s not out on the road helping someone, you’ll find him in the office-always involved, always committed.
Tribute to Guy Johnson 1958 to 2009
Anthony’s father, Guy Johnson, was a driving instructor for almost 30 years before sadly passing away from cancer.
Guy first qualified while living in London. After moving to Milton Keynes, he went on to establish his own business, Giffard Park Driving School, which built a strong reputation within the local community.
He played a key role in helping Anthony train and qualify as a driving instructor, alongside another excellent trainer, Neville Stamford.
Sadly, Guy passed away in 2009, just as Anthony was beginning to grow the business. However, he was able to see the early foundations being laid.
More than anything, Anthony believes his dad shaped the person he is today — from his morals and work ethic to his commitment to always going above and beyond for others. These core values remain at the heart of driveJohnson’s today, and that legacy is a direct reflection of Guy Johnson.
