If you're a complete beginner, you'll begin your driving lessons in quieter areas - Woodingdean, Coldean and Stanmer are all good places to learn the basics. The roads are long, wide and straight in these areas, giving you plenty of room to grasp the concept of moving the car, stopping it again and performing various manoeuvres.

For those who are further into their learning (usually with about 4 hours of experience driving in quieter areas), you'll be able to head into the busier areas with your instructor. You can drive through the compact and narrow streets closer to the seafront in the Kemptown and Brunswick Town areas, before dealing with the various junctions on Marlborough Place and Grand Parade. You'll also travel to the Lancing area, as that's where your nearest driving test centre is, to cover the roads, junctions and hazards in that area, like the A27 dual carriageway and the level crossing on South Street.
