A classic question I get asked is, "what happens if I go the wrong way on your test?" The answer is not a lot. Just try to do it safely, and you will be fine. Many learners will swerve at short notice, realising they are in the wrong lane and fail for the changing lanes part. If the examiner can see you have time to get into the correct lane, they may repeat the instruction or use hand signals. They won't repeat or re-enforce the direction if it isn't safe or there isn't enough time. You will not receive a driving fault for safely going in the wrong direction on your test.

Moving off is in the top 10 reasons for failing a driving test. A couple of classic reasons are, being in the wrong gear when stationary at lights or a junction, then stalling, and another is moving off with the handbrake still on or slightly on - especially on hills.

Your driving instructor in Carlisle will ask you about your previous experience. If you have not had any previous lessons, that is fine as many people have not had any previous experience. During this chat, your driving instructor will also go over the basics of the car, and they will do an eyesight check and check your provisional licence.
Once this is done, your instructor will begin your driving lesson in a quiet area. They will cover moving off and stopping, clutch control, the different pedals and how to steer. You will always begin in a quiet area away from cars and other road users to learn at your own pace.
