Brian is a very high quality and experienced driving instructor who helped me go from a complete beginner to a confident and extremely capable driver in the space of 3 months. Would highly recommend him to anyone who wants to pass their driving test.

I just moved to the country 5 months ago, coming from a country where all the vehicles and the driving wheels are on opposite side. Started taking lessons with Brian mid Jan. Thankfully passed yesterday with only 2 minor faults. Brian is professional, patient, keen and experienced driving instructor. Definitely would recommend!

If you see anything coming towards you be prepared to stop; remember it’s their priority. If you stop, don’t forget to look all around you before you start moving again. Lastly, don’t stare in the door mirrors. You can glance in them quickly only to see where you are and what you need to do with your direction.

All of our instructors teach in modern, dual-controlled and easy-to-drive cars. Learning to drive in a dual-controlled car ensures safety and should help you feel more comfortable.
Just some of our teaching vehicles include Mini Coopers, Audi A1, Ford Fiestas, to something a bit larger like a Volkswagen Golf or BMW 1 Series.
Yes, we have instructors covering many of the surrounding areas including Arbroath, Carnoustie, Montrose, Kirriemuir and many other areas. You can also use our postcode checker tool or give us a call to see if we have instructors available in your area.
The national average is 40 hours and around 20 hours of private practice with a friend or family member. At driveJohnson's driving school, our pupils average is around 23 hours, plus some additional practice outside of lessons if possible. Everyone's different, so we can't promise you'll pass in a specific amount of time; what we can promise is that we'll get you there as quickly as possible.
All of our Dundee driving instructors are DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) approved and fully qualified; they are also personally approved by driveJohnson's driving school!
We want to ensure all of our pupils are receiving the best level of teaching, which is why we only use approved driving instructors.
When you begin taking driving lessons in Dundee for the first 10-20 hours, you will purely cover the basics and build that foundation. Depending on your skill level, this could be shorter or longer. The basics you will cover include learning the pedals, moving off and stopping, clutch control and basic steering exercises to begin with.
There are several good areas where you can learn when you first start, and your instructor will know the best locations to practice all of these techniques. Two great spots to practice clutch control, moving off and stopping and turning around corners in are West Pitkero Industrial Estate and Drybrugh Industrial Estate. Both of these industrial estates are quiet, making them the ideal place to practice the basics. West Pitkero may be slightly busier due to it being the location of the post office; however, it is still a fantastic spot when you start off.
