My instructor Tony has been fantastic he is always on time and makes our lessons enjoying and most importantly very informative.

Tony Mills is a very calm, patient and excellent instructor. He broke everything down into easy to understand pieces and I was able to pass at my first attempt. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for an instructor in the ASHFORD or Folkestone area.

I had a great time learning to drive with Tony and was very pleased to pass my test at the first attempt.

He is very reliable, knowledgeable and patient, as well as possessing a grand sense of humour. With his emphasis on practising good 'roadsense', he teaches important driving skills over and above what is required to pass one's test.

I have no hesitation in recommending him as a great person to learn to drive with.

I'd had lessons before with 2 different instructors and wasn't happy with my lessons, I decided to change driving school to drive johnsons and they put me with Tony as my instructor. So happy and grateful that I got to learn with Tony, don't think I could've done it with any other instructor. Cheers Tony!

Loved every minute of my lessons, would recommend Drivejohnsons to anyone (:

It was great to learn with Tony and I am so happy that he helped me to pass on my first attempt! Thank you Tony

Tony was a phenomenal instructor and thanks to his great teaching I was able to pass first time and after only 25 hours of lessons.

Tony is a great instructor, helped me pass quickly and first time with just 2 minors. Would definitely recommend, thanks Tony.

I always wanted to pass my driving test and thanks to Tonys incredible teaching I was able to pass in Tonys automatic after 30 hours of amazing lessons.

My faith in driving was given back to me by learning with Tony, I never thought I would be able to drive and then it was broken down to me by Tony and I am so thankful for that as it was what I needed in order to pass.

Tony Mills is superb at being not only an instructor but also as a person, he cares and he helps and he is the best teacher I have ever had. I am so proud to have had him as my teacher when I learnt to drive and I am so happy to have passed with him.

After making over 20 calls and being told everywhere was fully booked I managed to get a lesson booked with Drivejohnsons and since then I have had lessons weekly with my instructor Tony Mills. He is a very good instructor, I would recommend him to anyone.

I really enjoyed learning to drive with Tony, would definitely recommend :)

Tony Mills is a fantastic instructor and he is someone who I would recommend to everyone in the Canterberry area. If you want to learn to drive an automatic car in Canterberry then choose Tony and you won't regret it

Learning with Tony was quick, simple and easy and when I passed after 20 hours it felt amazing.

I passed first time!! :D Can’t wait to get on the road now in my own car.

Want to thank Neil for all of his help and support while learning to drive, I passed and feel like a confident and great driver. I highly recommend Neil!

Tony is extremely knowledgable, skilled and patient. Couldn't have asked for a better driving instructor and I had a lot of fun learning to drive. Tony helped me pass my test first time around which I never thought I'd be able to do, thank you Tony!

Brilliant teaching and always made me feel at ease when we were out on the road. It helped that Tony talked to me about football and other topics I was interested in as it put me at ease and helped me to learn at my own pace.

Stephen was a fantastic instructor, lessons were enjoyable and very informative. Thanks Stephen!!

I had failed my test six times with two different driving schools but then I was recommended to learn with Tony in his automatic with driveJohnson's and it was incredible. He knew what I needed to learn and was able to help me change my life around and now I am able to go and buy my own car.

I was able to get an early test after passing my theory and thanks to Tony I got ready in less than 10 hours of lessons and was able to pass my early test with just three minors.

Mr Mills is an amazing instructor, he was able to keep me calm and distilled confidence in me. I wouldn't have passed if it wasn't for him. Thank you so much for all your help Tony.

Tony is a great teacher and I learnt extremely quickly with him and managed to pass after just 20 hours. Couldn't be more pleased. Thank you so much Tony!! :)

Tony is fantastic I was struggling to learn to drive a manual but then I switched to automatic with Tony and it made everything so much simpler. His way of teaching is amazing and I can't rate him high enough

Tony Mills is an inspiration as a person and I am so glad to have not only met him but also have been taught by him. I am so thankful to have had him teach me and to have passed with him is a great feeling

Instructor tip of the month Show more

Test tip of the month for Folkestone

If the examiner makes conversation with you on your test, always respond to avoid being rude. They will usually ask you a minimum of two questions. They are something along the lines of, 'What do you do for a living?' or, 'Have you had to take today off work?'

If you are approaching a junction or a tricky area then focus on your driving and when it’s safe to respond then do so. The examiner will understand you are focusing on your driving and they shouldn't be offended.

Useful driving test tip for Folkestone

When you go for your test, try to aim for perfection. If your standards are that high, you may make some faults, but you will still pass. If you aim to scrape through the test or say to yourself, "I don't care if I fail", you probably won't pass. Consider having more lessons until you feel comfortable with your ability and when your instructor is praising you.

Frequently asked questions...

How many driving lessons a week should I take?

How many lessons you have a week is completely up to you and is a personal preference. We would recommend having at least one 2-hour lesson per week so that there is enough time in each lesson to cover everything. However, you can have just 1-hour a week of lessons or have a couple of 2-hour lessons every week to get the hours in and pass sooner.

Can I have automatic driving lessons in Folkestone?

Yes you can! We offer both manual and automatic driving lessons in Folkestone with qualified instructors. If you would like to learn with one of our automatic driving instructors in Folkestone just let us know when making your booking and we'll be happy to accommodate this.

Do you offer lessons in any of the surrounding areas?

Yes, we have instructors covering many of the surrounding areas including driving lessons in Canterbury, Dover, Ashford and Hythe.

I live in Folkstone and prefer to have my driving test there. However, is it possible to take my test at other driving test centres nearby if I find an early cancellation?

Luckily for you, we have an instructor who lives in Folkstone. He’s very happy to accommodate driving tests in Ashford, Canterbury, and even Herne Bay. He has over 20 years of experience so there probably isn’t a road he hasn’t seen before. He also knows all of the test routes for the areas previously mentioned.

Please always consult your instructor before booking or changing your test date/location so they can ensure they are available for the big day!
