Frequently asked questions...
Your driving instructor in Hull will ask you about your previous experience. If you have not had any previous lessons, that is fine as many people have not had any previous experience. During this chat, your driving instructor will also go over the basics of the car, and they will do an eyesight check and check your provisional licence.
Once this is done, your instructor will begin your driving lesson in a quiet area. They will cover moving off and stopping, clutch control, the different pedals and how to steer. You will always begin in a quiet area away from cars and other road users to learn at your own pace.

Living in the port city of Kington upon Hull means you are probably fishing around for quality driving lessons. The good thing for you is you've just found a big catch - driveJohnson's Driving School in Hull!
We are one of the very few national companies out there that promises to use only local qualified driving instructors in Hull who are all local test route specialists.
When you start learning to drive with us in Hull, it's important we start you off in the quieter areas such as Anlaby Park, Cottingham and Kingswood, where there are some great loopy roads without too much traffic around. Beginners may spend 2-6 hours in these sort of areas mastering the key skills like clutch control, steering, moving away smoothly and stopping by the side of the road safely. Once you have conquered these skills then it's very easy to leave the housing estates mentioned and drive on busier roads which offer more progression, like driving on the B1233, Hull Road which passes the University of Hull. This road is a great example as it has lots of differing activity along the way, from roundabouts, cycle lanes, bus lanes, pedestrian crossings, dual carriageways and more - all on one road!
Another road you will find yourself on a lot is Cottingham Road/Clough Road (A1165). This is the immediate road you turn onto when you come out of the driving test centre. This isn't the best road if you are nervous or require a warm up. The road differs in speed, it's very busy, and leads to several roundabouts early on. If you take this route, expect to go onto the A1165 which leads to the centre of the city; this route is a popular independent driving route.
Whatever you are faced with on your test day, have no fear - your mighty Hull instructor will ensure you are ready and confident to take on any route in this busy city.
