Frequently Asked Questions
If you decide to practice outside of your lessons, this will only help you prepare for your test. When it comes to practising without one of our driving instructors in Salisbury, you need to make sure you are fully insured and with a fully qualified driver who is over 21 and has held their licence for at least 3 years.
There are several great places to practise driving and parking in and around the city centre. One ideal place to practice parking is Bourne Retail Park off the A36. This is a great place to practice because it allows you to choose between eight different car parks, and choose if you want to practice in an empty car park or a busier car park. Due to this, you can change the difficulty of parking by choosing to practice next to cars or away from cars.
As you approach your driving test, you will begin to cover more complex subjects and roads in the city. These will vary depending on your level of experience and if you have this in your area.
The topics that you can expect to see are spiral roundabouts, complicated roundabouts, how to join and exit dual carriageways, any accident black spots that could be on your test and independent driving using a satnav. If you believe you are close to being able to take your driving test then we suggest you speak to your instructor about it as they are likely in the same frame of mind.
When you begin to take your driving lessons in Salisbury, you will start by having a chat with your instructor and checking a few key details. This is nothing to worry about as we need to check your provisional driving licence, eyesight and go through any previous experience you may have had in the past.
Once this is complete, you will start to go through the basic control of the car, how to change the mirrors and seat position, along with how to operate the car and steer.
With our driving school in Salisbury, you will always begin in a quiet area with wide roads and no other cars. We do this to make sure you are away from distractions and fully focus on learning how to drive.
Your closest test centre would be on Rougemont Close. This means that when you are taking lessons, you can take all of them along your test routes to maximise your time in the car.
However, if you decide to take your driving test in another location, you can choose another test centre. The next closest two are Southampton and Poole. If you do decide to take your driving test in one of these locations, we can provide you with driving lessons in that area.
Yes, we have several automatic driving instructors in Salisbury who cover the city and the surrounding areas. We personally choose all of our driving instructors at driveJohnson's, and they all come with a grade-A rating. We also have female driving instructors in Salisbury if you would prefer to learn to drive either an automatic or manual car with a woman instructor.
If you want to start automatic driving lessons in Salisbury, you can request this when booking with us. We try to accommodate any request you have, and thanks to our years of service, we should be able to find the best instructor for you.
