If this happens on your test, just eat some humble pie and retreat back into the left-hand lane. The alternative is getting into a race, possibly breaking the speed limit, resulting in a big fat FAIL at the end of your test.

It's another classic, but many learners think they should offset their mirrors so that they must move their heads more during the test. You should be able to check your mirrors by moving your eyes - not your head. The examiners are trained to look out for eye checks rather than head movements. Moving your head may cause the examiner to think your mirrors are not set up correctly.

Firstly, your driving instructor will arrive at the address you have arranged with them. On your first driving lesson in Tonypandy, they will begin by asking you about your previous experience. They will also discuss with you the basics of the car, carry out an eyesight check and check your provisional licence.
Once this is done, your instructor will ask you to start practising behind the wheel in a quiet area. This will likely cover moving off and stopping, clutch control, the different pedals and how to steer, all at a pace that you are happy with.
