Moving off is in the top 10 reasons for failing a driving test. A couple of classic reasons are, being in the wrong gear when stationary at lights or a junction, then stalling, and another is moving off with the handbrake still on or slightly on - especially on hills.

Many learners fail their manoeuvre because they rush it. They get concerned about keeping other road users waiting. It's good to be considerate of other road users, but on your test, you have got to go nice and slow so you have time to do all the observations needed. The faster you do the manoeuvre, the faster your observations should be. You know what to do - keep your speed slow so you have time to observe!

When you first start your driving lessons in Tyldesley, you'll start out in the significantly less busy areas of Higher Folds, Lancaster Avenue, Crawford Avenue and the surrounding residential roads. These areas are the perfect place to learn how to complete the manoeuvres that will come up on your test, including pulling up on the right and parallel parking. They'll also give you experience with T-junctions and left and right turns - major to minor and vice-versa.
Once you are more confident getting on the busier main roads, you'll head on up to the Atherton area - since that's where the driving test centre is - to get familiar with the test route areas. You're likely to cover the A58, which is partly a dual-carriageway once it reaches the more rural area and the A577 which has a number of bus stops and parked cars on the side of the road to weave around.
