Alan was wonderful to have as an instructor. Very patient, calm, friendly and encouraging, making sure I was ready for my test. His teaching was absolutely comprehensive and was always enjoyable. During this difficult time of covid I wouldn’t have been able to pass my test without him! I am now a confident and happy driver, all thanks to Alan!
Alan was a great, friendly instructor who helped me pass first time with 2 minors. He got me test ready in a minimal amount of lessons and I can't recommend him highly enough.
Alan is an amazing driving instructor and I would definitely recommend him! He is very knowledgeable, friendly and patient. Despite having to stop and start lessons throughout the pandemic with different rules he went above and beyond to help me be prepare for my test. Every lesson was fun yet educational and I passed my test at my second attempt.

Alan was an amazing instructor! He helped me pass first time in Borehamwood and was excellent because he made me feel comfortable and was patient and encouraging. Couldn’t recommend him enough!
My partner passed first time with Alan, so when I started learning just months later, it felt natural to go with him too. I initially had my test booked for February 1st as Alan advised, but I changed it to mid January as I wanted to pass quicker. Sure enough, Alan was right as I then ended up re-booking for February 1st and I passed!

Alan was an amazing instructor and helped me pass first time in St Albans with only 1 minor. He is very knowledgeable and has an amazing approach to teaching. He is also someone who is very easy to talk to and is very up to date with test requirements, routes etc. I couldn't recommend him enough.

Often the learner gets so engrossed with stopping on the left they don’t check their mirrors and put on a necessary signal. The biggest reason for failing is no signal for a car following behind. If you are flapping, just put a signal on the approach to stopping to cover yourself. A signal on for nobody around isn’t going to harm anyone. No signal on for someone behind you could harm both you and the person behind you.

As a quaint, green town in Hertfordshire surrounded by many large country parks and old-fashioned buildings, Welwyn Garden City most definitely remains one of the more scenic areas to learn to drive in. During your first driving lesson in Welwyn Garden City, you’re less likely to begin in central areas; your instructor will take you to quieter areas such as Hall Grove and perhaps towards Hatfield Hyde. Hall Grove, in particular, is filled with lots of straight roads and simple left turnings with no roundabouts, ideal for beginners. Your driving instructor may also conduct some of your driving lessons in Hatfield and potentially some driving lessons in St Albans.
Once you have begun to build your confidence behind the wheel and feel ready to tackle more challenging situations, your instructor will use the mile-long Parkway to their advantage. As a large percentage of Parkway features narrow roads, this will help with practising stopping, starting and giving way to other road users. Depending on where you live, you may drive north of Parkway towards The Campus on Bridge Road and head towards the busy A1.
Alternatively, heading south of Parkway will give you the opportunity to try your hand at the more complicated roundabouts just past the Welwyn Rugby Football Club Ground, then continue to head towards either the Sports Park or Hospital Industrial Area to practice manoeuvres.
Since COVID-19, waiting times for tests have increased and may vary significantly depending on where your test centre is.
The nearest test centres for Welwyn Garden City are in Stevenage and St Albans. Your driving instructor will take you for driving lessons in Stevenage and St Albans, depending on where you choose to book your test.
We have several driving instructors in Welwyn Garden City, both male and female driving instructors, who provide lessons in manual and automatic vehicles. If you want to be taught by a female instructor, then that is completely understandable.
We have a great group of female driving instructors and they all come with a Grade A rating. If you wish to be taught by a female instructor, simply let our booking coordinator know and they can help you choose the best instructor for you.
We can't be exact as this varies from person to person; however, we can say that on average, a complete beginner will require 23-24 hours of driving tuition with us before they are test ready. With our intensive courses pupils take on average 1-4 weeks to pass their driving test.
