With the Government advising everyone to avoid travelling abroad this summer, it looks like 2020 is the year for staycations. While most of us would usually be flying off on our summer holidays to destinations such as Spain, Greece and Portugal, this year, holidays will be taken slightly closer to home.

The UK has some amazing spots, whether you’re looking for a beach holiday or city break, there’s something for holiday goers of all types in the UK. We’ve put together a list of the top 5 places to visit in the UK this year!

  1. Cornwall

    If you like beautiful beaches and clear waters, then a trip to Cornwall should be at the top of your list for summer holidays in the UK this year. However, its beautiful beaches aren’t the only thing Cornwall has going for it, there’s plenty of things to do for fun in Cornwall.

    The Lake District has 12 of the largest lakes in England and over 3,000km of rights of way; you can explore until your heart’s content. Why not join a guided walk in the Lake District or hire a bike and explore one of the many cycling routes.

    Low Gillerthwaite Field Centre is an accredited dark sky discovery site, meaning it’s one of the best places in the UK to go stargazing. The area is largely free of light pollution, and the northern lights have even been spotted here. Low Gillerthwaite field centre also has options for camping and a hostel where you can put your feet up for the night.

  3. The Cotswolds

    Just over 2 hours from London, the beautiful Cotswolds feels like a world away from the busy hustle and bustle of the city.

    The Cotswolds is stretched across almost 800 square miles, and there are many different areas to explore, which is why it’s best to go by car as you’ll have much more freedom to go where you want.

    Driving in the Cotswolds means you can hop from village to village and experience all that the Cotswolds has to offer.

There are a number of campsites located in different areas in the Cotswolds, all offering different experiences depending on what you’re looking for.     Enjoy England’s eastern coastline with a drive to Norfolk. Enjoy England’s first-ever medieval city by stopping off in Norwich and take a trip to the 11th-century cathedral and visit the central market which has been running for over 1,000 years. When you’re ready for something a bit more relaxing, head east into The Broads or take the coastal road north towards the traditional seaside resort of Cromer.
