At many test centres, it gets congested. By getting in the test centre car park as early as possible, you can get the best parking bay, in case you are asked to do the bay park manoeuvre.

The examiner will ask you to pull up on the left at a safe place at least once during the test. Be wary when they ask you to do this, make sure your thinking cap is on! They often ask you this when there are hazards about, such as bus stops, double yellow lines, lots of junctions etc. They aren’t trying to trick you; they are just checking to see if you understand where is safe and not safe to pull up on the left.

A common question we're asked is what happens during your first driving lesson. You may have spoken to friends or family who have given you some ideas. Here is our list of what generally happens during your first driving lesson:
Your driving instructor will tailor their driving lesson to your specific needs and progress you at a pace that suits you, so you may find you cover more than the above if you are a quick learner.
Your driving instructor in Basildon will ask you about your previous experience. If you have not had any previous lessons, that is fine as many people have not had any previous experience. During this chat, your driving instructor will also go over the basics of the car, and they will do an eyesight check and check your provisional licence.
Once this is done, your instructor will begin your driving lesson in a quiet area. They will cover moving off and stopping, clutch control, the different pedals and how to steer. You will always begin in a quiet area away from cars and other road users to learn at your own pace.
