During your first hour driving lesson your instructor will ask you some questions about any previous experience you may have so they can gauge what sort of level you're currently at. Your driving instructor will then drive to a safe place where they will ask you to sit in the drivers seat and they will go over the controls of the vehicle. Once you're comfortable with all of the controls they will show you how to move off and stop the car, reaching up to 2nd and 3rd gear once you're ready.
