Thanks Ifty for getting me through my driving test first time! I appreciate your professionalism, good advice and patience.

Ankur is a great instructor with great knowledge! every lesson i learnt something new and passed my test no problem.

I am really happy with my lessons so far; John has taken the time and consideration to plan out all of my lessons. They also lead on from one another so you can see how much you are progressing!

Never thought I would pass my driving test especially first time and with such confidence.

Shanaz was really knowledgeable and helpful during my driving lessons. She helped me pass first time with just 3 minor faults. I recommend.

I loved getting to learn with John and if it wasn't for his teaching I wouldn't have passed first time.

Thoroughly recommend John from driveJohnson's, he is a fantastic instructor! He was great at communicating with me in the lessons and made sure I knew exactly what I was doing every step of the way.

Brilliant instructor and if you need to pass after just 12 hours like me then make sure you learn with John ??

Top fella!
Had a great experience learning to drive with Ankur ... highly recommended

Kajal is an amazing driving instructor and lovely person, I thoroughly enjoyed learning to drive with her and would highly recommend to friends, family and anyone looking for driving lessons.

Test Tip Of The Month For Watford

When entering the Watford test centre car park at the end of the test, get into 1st gear because there's a dip in the road. If you're in 2nd you will stall. If you can, park as far back into the car park as possible, thus making it easier for returning test candidates. When at the roundabout, taking the 2nd exit, turn right onto Stevenson Way and get into the middle lane.

If you are on the independent drive using the satnav and at the Hartspring roundabout it tells you to take the 2nd exit, get into the middle lane and then stick to the left.

Useful Driving Test Tip For Watford

If you ever forget what direction you should be going, always ask the examiner. You will never fail your driving test for going in the wrong direction, but you can fail for not driving safely. If in doubt, ask in plenty of time.

Frequently asked questions...

Yes, we do. We have some fantastic driving instructors offering manual and automatic driving lessons in Watford, both during weekdays and at the weekends. Our automatic lessons can be taken weekly or with an intensive course. You can also switch to automatic at any point during your lessons with our driving school.

We have both male and female driving instructors in Watford for you to learn with. Our driving instructors are all fully qualified and from the local area. They will teach you everything you need to know about driving.

If you would prefer to learn with a female driving instructor, just let us know when making a booking and we'll happily arrange this for you.

Firstly, if you have never driven before, your driving instructor will take you to a quiet area in the town, somewhere secluded away from traffic, like Bay Tree Walk. Here, you will go over the basic controls of the car, steering, gears, and practise moving off and stopping.

Once you've mastered the basics, your instructor will start taking you on busier roads, like The Gossamers, to meet traffic and practise turning right and left from a major to minor road. Rest assured, your instructor will only take you on more busy, complicated roads like the A4178, when they feel you are ready.

As you get more confident and closer to your driving test, your instructor will have you practising roundabouts and dual carriageway driving on the A41. The M25 and M1 provide ample opportunity for you to cover the challenges of motorway driving before your test. Your instructor will also ensure that you become familiar with all the popular test routes and any accident blackspots on them so that you are well-equipped to deal with anything that is thrown at you on test day.

Yes, we do. Our driving instructors are all local and happy to pick pupils up from the surrounding areas, including Abbots Langley, Bushey, Kings Langley and Rickmansworth.

Learning to drive in a big town such as Watford will definitely prepare you for life after the test, as all elements of driving can be accessed and taught easily here. In some areas of the town, you may feel like you are driving in areas of North London. Skills such as anticipation and meeting traffic will be needed to a high level where you can see/feel the hustle and bustle on the roads ahead of you. In other areas of the town, you may feel like you in are in the country side where good planning/road position and approach speed to bends will required heading out towards areas like the leafy Chandler's Cross.

Beginners will start their lessons in an area where the roads are ideally long/wide and not too many parked cars around: Holywell and Cassiobury estates tick this requirement nicely.

It won't be long before you have grasped the basics and you are asking your local driveJohnson's instructor in Watford about manoeuvres, test routes, and more. At this point, you will be driving past some of Watfords iconic landmarks such as Vicarage Road where we have taught many Watford Football youth footballers in the past to drive. Manoeuvres will generally start on quiet roads but, as you approach your test, you will be challenged by your instructor to nail manoeuvres like the parallel park on roads similar to the one-way street on Market Square. Pressure of busy shops nearby, pedestrians walking past and cars behind you means you will need to hold your nerves together and stay composed whilst reversing in behind a parked car. Practicing in areas like this will prepare you nicely for the big test day, which is what we do best - preparing you to pass first time with class!
