Frequently asked questions in Milton Keynes...
There is only one driving test centre in Milton Keynes and it is based in Bletchley on Wilton Avenue. If the waiting time for a driving test is long, some locals living near Bletchley may opt for a Leighton Buzzard test. This isn't too long to get to from the bypass road which takes you straight there.
As mentioned above, the driving test centre is located in Bletchley, so expect at least 40-50% of your test to be conducted in and around Bletchley.
As you leave Wilton Avenue, you will turn left or right. Turning left will take you towards Buckingham Road, so make sure you have practised the busy train station roundabout and the famous B&Q roundabout, which is now next to an Aldi supermarket (opposite TK Maxx and Tescos). If you turn right, you will either go down Church Green Road or Rickley Lane. Church Green Road has lots of parked cars, which means that you'll get to practice starting, stopping and moving around stationary vehicles. Rickley Lane, on the other hand, is relatively quiet throughout the day, but can become super busy before and after school hours due to Lord Grey School. Here, you'll need to remain vigilant for pedestrians and cyclists, along with stopping at zebra crossings for students to pass.
Outside of Bletchley, the test routes can go as far as Central Milton Keynes and into the countryside areas, such as Whaddon and Newton Longville. With roundabouts and dual carriageways on your doorstep, you will cover these within the test. Some routes will take you on the A5, which often leads to some tricky spiral roundabouts - Fenny Stratford and Redmoore roundabout being the trickiest and most popular.
We have over 60 driving instructors in Milton Keynes covering the area, and we have grown to this level because of local demand for driving lessons. Once upon a time, we had just one instructor: the owner himself. Over the years, whilst serving customers well, we have grown. So, yes we are the biggest. As for the best, we will let the thousands and thousands of first-time passes do the talking. One thing is for sure, we are here for the long game, and if you want a professional and personal service then give us a call!
Yes, we do. We have the largest pool of automatic driving instructors in Milton Keynes. We also have around 10 multilingual driving instructors who can assist if learners would like some of their teaching translated into their own language. For different language requirements, please contact the office. Many automatic driving instructors work 6 to 7 days a week. They are very busy, so please book in early.
Yes, we have several female driving instructors in Milton Keynes who cover Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas. We personally choose all of our female driving instructors at driveJohnson's, and they all come with a grade-A rating.
If you would like to learn with one of our female driving instructors, you can request this when booking with us. We try to accommodate any request you have and, thanks to our large number of female driving instructors, we should be able to find the best instructor for you.
All the examiners are very friendly and should make you feel at ease when you first start your driving test. Most examiners will ask you 1-2 questions quite early on to help you feel at ease, such as "What do you do for a living?" or "What would you be doing today if you weren't taking your driving test right now?" These questions are tailored to suit anyone from any walk of life. Feel free to respond to the examiner, but remain focused on your driving simultaneously. When the road is clear and hazard-free, the examiner may ask you a question.
This shouldn't be an issue. Many learners need to be picked up from one location and dropped off at another. It's worth mentioning this requirement over the phone or by message so that we can allocate you a driving instructor in Milton Keynes who can easily accommodate your needs.
We have a variety of instructors teaching in manual and automatic cars who can help you with driving lessons. If you are beginner, don’t worry - we have some great areas for you to learn the basics in. These include Shenley Wood, Knowlhill, Hodge Lea, West Bletchley and, if you live out in Newport Pagnell, the Kingfisher estate is a good place (just off Willen Road). These areas are quiet with long, straight roads, with the odd left and right turn. Wherever you live, one of our quality approved instructors will tailor your lessons to your current ability and choose suitable areas to teach you well and build up your confidence.
For those who have grasped the basics, your instructor won’t waste any time - they will have you driving in and around Bletchley test centre. With the test being approximately 40 minutes long, your examiner could take you out as far as Whaddon, where there is a tricky right turn going towards Kingsmead, or over to Central Milton Keynes to drive past the train station, eventually joining the A5 to head back to Bletchley.
Many people know the the dreaded double roundabout in Bletchley as the B&Q roundabout (now knocked down). For the younger generation, it’s the double roundabout with Tesco and TK MAXX next to it. Yes, you may be directed to go over that roundabout on your test! Don’t worry, our instructors know this roundabout and every possible route going over it.
Whatever your level, we have top instructors with great local knowledge to you help you pass first time, with class.
