No Waiting Sign – what does it mean?

This sign is usually seen accompanying a single yellow line.

In the picture example provided, this means you should keep your car moving and not stop to pick up, drop off passengers, unload car or deliver a letter to a post box quickly within 8am to 6pm.

At 6:01pm you can stop outside your friend’s house, with the engine off for example and wait for your friend to come out of their house and enter your car. You could even park your car over night from 6:01pm to 7:59am the following morning.

You would be breaking the law if you left your car to go into your friend’s house between 8am to 5:59pm for a quick cup of tea.
