Mangham Way, Off Mangham Rd, Rotherham S61 4RLAt the Sheffield Middlewood test centre, if asked to turn right from Middlewood Road into Langsett Avenue, use the full length of the right turn box and stop and select 1st gear before entering Langsett Avenue. Take a good look up the hill before turning, as it is very steep and has parked cars along both sides. It's much better to wait on the flat for any cars coming down the hill before proceeding so that you don't need to stop and wait on a very steep hill.

It’s common when turning left at a blind T-junction to look right and only look left when the car goes into a new road. You will often get away with this, but now and again, something will be there, like a parked car or a pedestrian about to walk out. On your test, you’ll fail, and in real life, you’ll have a severe accident. Be sure to do the minimum observations for T-junctions: right, left, right again, and then look into the road before you emerge into it!

If you have no prior driving experience, and many of our learners don't, you will begin by learning the basic car controls, gears, clutch control as well as moving off and stopping.
When you have mastered the basics, your driving instructor will have you driving along quieter roads in Sheffield, like Moonshine Lane and Everingham Road, to practice turning left and right from major to minor roads, emerging from junctions and meeting traffic.
As you grow in confidence, you will be taught manoeuvres and brave the busier A and B roads that circle the city centre. When your driving instructor feels you are ready, they will have you on the A61 to practice dual carriageways and large roundabouts, and you will experience motorway driving on the M1.
