If you’re learning to drive in Bradford, you’re probably aware that there are three driving test centres to choose where to take your test! All three of Bradford’s driving test centres fall into the best and worst categories.

Good news if you’re taking your driving lessons in Huddersfield, Huddersfield is amongst the test centres with the highest pass rates, as well as Halifax Maltings pop-up test centre and Bradford Thornbury.

The test centres that did not come out so well were Leeds, Bradford Manningham and Halifax; these test centres were found to have the lowest pass rates.

Figures show that only 35.2% of all learners passed their test at the Manningham test centre between April 2019 and March 2020, this is considerably lower than the national average of 46%.

However, Bradford’s best performing test centre was Thornbury with a pass rate of 45.9%, matching the national average.

One of our driving instructors in Wakefield said:

“I regularly get pupils who want to take their tests at a test centre with a higher pass rate, what I tell these pupils is that these pass rates tend to fluctuate. Something I stand by is that it doesn’t matter what test centre my pupils choose because I always make sure they are good enough to pass anywhere.”

National pass rates

Outside of West Yorkshire, The Pavilion test centre in Birmingham had the worst pass rate with just 28.9% of learners passing when taking their test there! Rochdale test centre had a pass rate of 30.8%, followed by Erith in London at 31.6%.

The areas with the highest pass rates were the Isle of Mull and Isle of Tiree test centres with pass rates of 88.2% and 85.7%.

A spokesperson for the DVSA said:

“Candidates are assessed to the same level; the result of their test depends entirely on their performance on the day. The driver testing and training regime test candidates’ ability to drive safely and responsibly as well as making sure they know the theory behind safe driving.”
