5 Bolton residences charged with driving offences

5 Bolton residence have been charged with driving offences one of which saw a 90mph car chase

Jack McGrail, 22, of Kendrew Road has been sentenced to eight months in prison after he led police on a 90mph car chase.

McGrail, who bought his Audi A3 for only £700 from Facebook, has had the book thrown at him by Judge Tom Gilbart at Bolton Crown Court.

He led police on the high-speed car chase after they attempted to box his car in, due to it having the wrong number plates. McGrail then mounted the curb to escape officers, starting the chase that saw speeds reach 90mph through residential streets.

This only came to a halt when McGrail turned into a cul-de-sac at Westland Avenue. After trying to escape police on foot, McGrail admitted to dangerous driving along with driving without a licence and insurance.

McGrail, the father-of-one, has no previous convictions, however, he has been told to conquer his cannabis addiction to “become a useful member of society”. He was sentenced to 8 months in prison with an 18-month suspended sentence. He will also be electronically tagged with a set curfew of 7pm to 7am.

Along with this, he was ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work and 20 days of rehabilitation activities.

McGrail is also banned from applying for a driving licence for two years and he will need to take an extended test when he does. It seems he will be needing some intensive driving lessons in Bolton, once we reach 2024.

Police officer next to police car

Adam Mala, 31, of Gibraltar Street was charged with driving whilst under the influence of cocaine, whilst having no insurance.

The Bolton-based plasterer pleaded guilty to the charges after police found him driving the car on 20th February 2021.

Mala claims a friend had lent him the car to sleep in but had decided to move it a short distance when he was caught. This is Mala’s second driving offence in the last 10 years, and magistrates have now banned him from driving for three years.

He must also complete 12 months of community service, receive treatment for alcohol addiction, participate in 20 days of rehabilitation activities and pay a fine of £200 plus £180 in costs.

Carley Doddy, 30, of Singleton Avenue has been banned from driving for 12 months, after she was caught driving whilst under the influence of cocaine.
She was caught driving her VW Golf by police on the M61 on 10 December 2020, where she initially pleaded not guilty. After changing her plea to guilty, Doddy received a 12-month driving ban and was given an £80 fine, plus having to pay £119 in costs.

33-year-old Peter Evans of Sunny Garth has seen himself banned from driving for 30 months after being caught by police driving his Peugeot Boxer on 26 August 2021, while he was almost four times over the legal limit for alcohol.

The legal limit for alcohol is 35mcg per 100ml of breath, Evans had 136mcg in his system, leading to his 30-month ban. Along with this, he must also undertake in unpaid work, participate in 10 days of rehabilitation activities and pay £180 in costs.

Finally, our oldest member to make the list is John Hart, 69, of Ivy Road.

Hart was found behind the wheel of his Seat Leon on 12 September 2021 whilst being over the legal limit for alcohol. He was suspended from driving for six months and received a fine of £80 plus £119 in costs.

It seems that everyone on this list didn’t focus on their driving lessons. Hopefully, next time they decide to go with driveJohnson’s and choose to have driving lessons in Bury or driving lessons in Heywood instead of what they learnt in Bolton.
