A Huddersfield driver has claimed they were stuck driving around Huddersfield for over an hour, searching for a disabled space.
Posted on a local Facebook page, the driver claimed that he could not park his work vehicle, which they use to take disabled residents into towns so they can make appointments.
The vehicle in question is a tall vehicle with a ramp for wheelchair users making certain parking spots impossible.
Even though the driver has a blue badge they can use when looking for parking spaces, they regularly come up empty.
They cited several issues with town centre car parks. “Wilko – no minibus or vans,” they said. “The car park above Primark is always full, street parking full – especially for a larger vehicle.
“Kingsgate and bus station – not enough headroom. Springwood and other out-of-town car parks are too far [away from the town centre] and steep for people with health conditions…”
“I was frustrated the other day as I had to support a wheelchair user to a town centre opticians appointment (with a blue badge) and unfortunately missed the appointment as I couldn’t park.
Our local driving instructor in Huddersfield, Arfan Manzoor, said, “Finding a place to park can be difficult at the best of times. However, it is essential to remember that you need to park in a legal and proper place. You cannot park on double yellow lines, opposite junctions or in front of lowered pavements, and you must remember this if you are out on the road looking for a parking space.”
