Hello Everyone,
Thank you for visiting this page. We need to collectively work together and bring the issues we face to the Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps. This man is the game changer – he’s the man that got us out of the door in July and we can’t rely on the DVSA!
If everyone messages their local MP and Grant Shapps, we can make enough noise to be considered and, worse case scenario, get some straighter answers from the DVSA in the future.
Please only send the template letter if you genuinely agree with the points within the content.
How to notify Grant Shapps and your local MP about your concerns
Here’s the plan of action and timeline I propose:
- I have sent my initial email and letter today – 10th November 2020
- All driveJohnson’s and affiliated driving schools send an email to Grant Shapps and their local MP as soon as possible. Download the editable Microsoft Word template below. If you add to it, make sure it factually correct and without emotion. You can add things like you fall into the 3 million people excluded from schemes such as SEISS or other factual data relevant to you or the industry. Between 11th and 13th November
- I will publish the letter across as many social media platforms as possible for instructors to use the same template and send to their local MPs and Grant Shapps. 14th to 16th November
- If we don’t receive a respectful, non-autogenerated response by the 18th November, I will calculate the figures and general concerns to the media to see if they can emphasis the short and long-term issues to our industry.

Download and read some of the shocking facts in the letter! If you agree, send it Mr Shapps and your local MP.
Please note: you will need to add your name, address and add your signature to the bottom.

Content for the email:
Dear Mr Shapps and My Local MP,
I hope you are well during these very challenging times.
Please read my attached letter. I’m extremely concerned about the short and long-term future of our industry (driver training) and I believe you should be too in the interests of our health and the economy. You have some power to stop this!
If our industry or myself do not receive a satisfactory response within 7 days, I will pursue other avenues including the media to see if they can attain a respectful response.
I look forward to your response.
Yours sincerely,
[Your Name]Thank you for reading. All the best.

Attachments
These attachments show the inconsistency and ambiguity from the DVSA in regards to instructors conducting driving lessons. You can see they have changed the wording on the DVSA website from ‘suspended’ to ‘should’. Why have they made this change without notifying the industry?
DVSA mention that only testing suspended:
DVSA state: ‘You should not carry out driving lessons’
Where has the word suspended gone?
DVSA’s initial statement using the word suspended which has now been changed to ‘should’. Why?
