Anthony’s Tokyo Marathon
In Tokyo, Anthony was aiming for a sub 3-hour 35-minute marathon. Unfortunately, he fell just short of his target time, but still achieved a new personal best time, beating his previous marathon best time of 3 hours 40 minutes 8 seconds.
Anthony’s training
Anthony has a personal goal of running all of the major marathons before he is 45 years old, and after running Tokyo, he would have 3 out of the 6 medals available.
He has been training hard for these three marathons since December, gradually increasing his weekly mileage. He was averaging 75k running in the last 30 days leading up to the Tokyo marathon and on Saturday, 31 January, he completed a 32km (20-mile) training run in 2 hours and 38 minutes.
This training block has been hard for him as he wants a new PB; however, at the same time, he has to keep up with the demands of the business and also now has another addition to the family, Imogen Johnson, who is approaching 6 months in age. Supported by his wonderful wife Carla, Anthony is just about able to manage the lack of sleep, keeping on top of business and his training.
Message from Anthony:
“Thank you to everyone who has supported and sponsored me in my past marathons, and for donating to Young Lives vs Cancer.
This training block has been particularly challenging as we welcomed our second child in October 2025. Balancing work, family life, and running has been tough. Most of my runs recently have been either early mornings between 5:30 and 6:30am, or late at night while my older daughter, Freya, is at activities like netball practice. I’d say around 80% of my runs have been in complete darkness.
I’ve actually really enjoyed the running itself; it’s just been a challenge fitting it all in. Seeing everyone’s kind messages leading up to previous races has been a huge motivation, and knowing I’ve raised money for young people with cancer is incredibly rewarding.”
