It’s a dilemma for many learner drivers – what type of shoe to wear for your first driving lesson and then what type of shoe to wear moving forward.
Most learner drivers start their lessons from home and finish at work or college, and bringing an extra pair of shoes can be an unnecessary hassle. As a result, we have come up with a comprehensive list of the best shoes to wear when you are having driving lessons that can be styled to match most outfits.
Converse
Converse has been a staple of fashion since they were first released in 1917 and were made even more popular when Converse released Converse Chuck Taylor All Star in 1922. They give you the ability to feel the clutch and brake pedal much better than a timberland boot for example, which is handy, especially if you are taking your driving lessons in London where lots of stopping and starting is required because of the slow-moving traffic. Converse also come in several colours and styles, meaning you won’t struggle to find a pair to match your outfit.
Driving Shoe
The driving shoe is a gentleman’s favourite. This universal style allows the wearer to go for a casual look or you can take full advantage of chinos or shorts. Driving shoes can come in several styles to pair with your outfits. These shoes work great, especially if you are finishing your lessons at the office.
Ballet Flats
This is one of the best options available, mainly because it has one of the thinnest soles. A fan favourite amongst our female learners, the ballet flat is a fantastic shoe to learn to drive in. The thin sole allows you to focus on what you are doing when using the brake/clutch for controlling the car. Such a thin sole enables you to press the gas more smoothly too giving your passengers and of course the driving examiner a chauffeur like drive. Due to the simplistic nature of the shoe’s design, you can pair these shoes with an outfit that will last you all day. These shoes shine when using the clutch to complete hill starts and encountering traffic. If you have found yourself struggling to adapt to the busy roads when having driving lessons in Luton or the hills of the Lake District, then this could be what you have been missing.
Toms
Toms are a great choice of shoe if you are going to be finishing your lesson and heading into the office or for a sophisticated dinner. Toms offer all the practicality of Converse, but the subtle and sophisticated design means these work much better for your formal attire. Toms look excellent no matter the outfit, suits, shorts, dresses and even casual clothes. People worldwide wear Toms because of their practicality and simplistic design.
Plimsoll
Whilst this may bring back memories of primary school PE, don’t write off the plimsoll just yet. Due to their simplistic nature and overall comfort, the plimsoll is an excellent choice of shoe to learn in. What’s even better is that more and more high-end designers are bringing out plimsolls. With the right plimsoll, you can not only look amazing around campus but also ace your driving test.
These are just some of our favourite shoes to wear when taking your driving lessons.
