All Part 1 training is online based, with office support over the phone or via Zoom if required.
If you are working full-time and you can only do weekends or evenings, and you can’t take holiday, then this course probably isn’t best suited to you. You will receive 32 hours of two-to-one in-car training and a further 8 hours of online training with an Ex DVSA examiner who now works for driveJohnson’s.

– How many learners have lost their theory test certificate fees because of the 2-year expiry law?
– How many PDIs (trainee instructors) have seen their 2 years to qualify from passing their theory test expire?
– How many extra examiners does the DVSA anticipate having at their disposal to deal with the backlog?
– How does the DVSA intend to train examiners to deal with the testing backlog whilst using the extra examiners available to assist with the backlog of driving tests fast approaching a 1 year waiting time?
– When will the examiners in training be realistically ready to assist with the backlog of learner driver testing?
– Can the DVSA guarantee they will be able to open all the driving test centres immediately when we can restart? When lessons we were able to restart in July 2020, the DVSA took 2 months to open all the test centres. On top of that, they were reducing the number of tests per day to reduce the risks of COVID-19 transmission.

The DVSA unfortunately sent an email out that caused confusion, we have edited it to what it should say. In summary:
Many key workers will be contacted between now and 22nd July for an emergency test. The key worker must be ready if they choose to accept the test slot they have been given.
The DVSA have released this email and taken this action as means of getting more examiners back in to the swing of things at suitable pace ready for 22nd July 2020, when tests will increase up to 5 tests a day per examiner. At the moment it’s not uncommon for an examiner to do just 1 or 2 key worker tests a day. Between now and 22nd July this should increase which will help key workers, clear the waiting time for key worker tests and enable examiners coming back new to the new testing procedures to start testing at a slower pace and basically find their feet and teeth out any issues that may incur before 22nd July.

Unfortunately, It’s back to teaching Key Workers for the moment if they have a driving test coming up. Any instructors needing a Key Worker magnetic panel, please contact the office immediately. One of our office team will call you in the next 24-48 hours to establish if you want to teach Key Workers.
We will be advising non key worker enquiries/bookings they can re-commence their driving lessons from 20th July 2020. Obviously this is subject to change pending further government DVSA/advice. Any new bookings we will be booking them in with you for this date onwards. Please feel free to get in touch with them sooner and introduce yourself, this will increase the chances of them remembering their lesson time and staying committed to the booking we have taken for you.
The DVSA have just announced the following:
Lockdown in Leicester: What it means for restarting driver and rider services
The Government announced on 29 June that Leicester and surrounding areas are in lockdown following an increase in Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.
Which areas are affected
Read the government statement on the areas affected and the restrictions that have been put in place pending a review from 18 July.
What this means to you
The local lockdown means that if you live in this area you will not be able to restart driving or riding instruction until after the restrictions are lifted.
We will still open the trainer booker service on the 6 July, but you will not be able to book any tests in test centres located in the areas affected.
We will continue to offer a service for critical workers in these areas. Any existing critical worker tests in these areas will go ahead as planned.
What this means to our services
This means that we will be unable to reopen our theory test centres in the areas affected on 4 July and for the duration of the lockdown.
This means that motorcycle and vocational tests will not be able to restart in the affected areas on 13 July and for the duration of the lockdown.
We will continue to monitor this situation and will let you know when testing and training can resume.

Officially no. The only thing you need to do is conduct the key 5 points of going back to work and follow government guidelines for working a vehicle. These can be found via the following links:

I would recommend definitely asking them to acknowledge they understand the risk assessment required every lesson. Signing the form in the car is counterproductive, so perhaps send it to them by email or WhatsApp, asking them to acknowledge that they have received the risk assessment, read and understood it.
Typical WhatsApp message I would personally send:
Hi [Pupil’s Name],
I have sent you a copy of the company risk assessment for your viewing. Please acknowledge you have received this and let me know if you understand it fully and happy to follow the if they arise protocols. See you on __/__/__.
Any problems or if you are feeling unwell – please let me know with as much notice as possible.
[Instructor’s Name]At the moment the DVSA haven’t given us any guidance saying that we should or must wear face masks in the lesson.
What we do know straight away is that examiners will be wearing face masks for tests and the examiner will expect the learner taking their test to wear a face mask as well. So based on this, we would advise you and your pupil to wear a face mask during your driving lessons.
No. The examiner won’t allow the test to go ahead, unless you have a valid reason for not wearing a face mask. This may need to be backed up with evidence such as a medical document explaining any condition for example.
If your pupil forgets to bring a face mask the Dvsa examiner will provide one for the pupil.

The cancellation policy remains the same. However, you should show leniency to anyone cancelling because of COVID-19 symptoms and avoid charging them. I would strongly avoid enforcing any charges if pupils are stating they have symptoms of the virus. Once a learner has symptoms, you and the pupil should refer to the government website for the latest information and protocols which is evolving weekly and monthly.
As of the 22nd July 2020. Driving tests will recommence, the DSVSA have stated those with tests cancelled during the virus will receive priority. They will be contacted soon to book a driving test. See latest PDF from DVSA announcement on 2nd July 2020 above.
